Global Response Medicine (GRM) is a nonprofit organization whose primary mission is to provide emergency healthcare to those impacted by war, conflict or disaster.
Similar to many nonprofits, GRM operates on a lean administrative budget to ensure donor funds are directed towards its core mission. Despite this, GRM recognized the necessity for substantial back-office support to fulfill donor commitments, optimize fund utilization, and forecast cash flow accurately. However, GRM faced challenges as successive individuals tasked with fiscal responsibilities lacked the necessary expertise or motivation to rectify tangled historical records or establish robust processes and procedures for organizational advancement.
GRM posed a distinctive challenge for Complete Balance. Typically, our cleanup process is less formal and detailed compared to the work we undertake under the outsourcing model, as past records and backups are not always readily accessible. However, GRM found itself in the midst of a 2022 audit, necessitating well-substantiated transaction support and accuracy. This demanded extensive investigation and meticulous assembly of information to prepare auditable financial statements for past activities.
Throughout our cleanup procedures, we delved deeply into GRM's accounting intricacies and distinctive circumstances. While their accounting appears straightforward from a technical standpoint, we recognized the necessity for a meticulous and comprehensive month-end closing process. This was vital to ensure that expenses were properly aligned with donor restrictions and that all donor compliance obligations were fulfilled. Leveraging the full array of features offered by QuickBooks Online, we collaborated closely with multiple individuals at the client level to uphold data accuracy.
GRM additionally oversees several international programs, necessitating collaboration with individuals across the globe to ensure smooth operation of the organization. Operating in regions affected by conflict or disaster posed numerous distinctive challenges, prompting us to devise innovative solutions. Despite these hurdles, this project has been immensely gratifying for the Complete Balance team, as we've witnessed GRM's successes firsthand, bringing us a profound sense of personal satisfaction.
